Welcome! If you have kids in elementary school, this home-based, faith resource is for you! If you have children in early childhood, their home-based, faith resources will be handed out in KiDSCOR! Kids of all ages will participate in the same monthly offering for missions and that information is included in the first paragraph below. May your family be blessed by God as you choose to spend time with each other and Him!

All KiDSCOR kids (Nursery, Early Childhood and Elementary)

Missions Project: During the months February and March, KiDSCOR will be receiving offering for food-related mission projects in Haiti and in Kansas City. Due to the extreme devastation of natural disasters in recent years, Haiti’s crops have been destroyed.  Part of the money we collect will provide Haiti with trees and seeds for new gardens.

The Souper Bowl Food Drive will receive the money for people in Kansas City. Food will be purchased and distributed to local food banks where children and adults will receive it. Every coin and dollar received will be used to share Christ’s love with children in these ways.  Please share your blessings!

On February 26 and March 5, the KiDSCOR offering will be contributed to our all-church capital campaign. The money the kiddos bring those two weeks will be given to help build a special place for mission and ministry that will serve for generations to come!

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for always being near to me.  Thank you for helping me when I am afraid.  Thank you that I can worship you wherever I am and for a very special church who understands that all people are valued and important to you. Please help me share your love with people near and far. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Family Activity:

Every day is a gift from God! No matter our situation or our age, we can celebrate and give thanks, even when we face challenges and fear. Encourage your family members to choose one day this week where they will be intentionally aware of the world around them. Invite them to use their senses of sight, sound, taste, touch and smell to soak in God’s presence in the everyday ordinary-ness of life. When you gather in the evening, ask each person to share God’s gifts in their day. You can draw, make a list or create a collage of what your family experienced. Seek to become more aware of God’s goodness and blessings on a daily basis and thank God often. When you feel anxious, review your lists or look at your pictures and thank God for being present always.

Action Steps:

  • Collect offering for our new building
  • Carry a small stone in your pocket to remind you God is always with you
  • Use blocks to build a church or a temple
  • Pray for all who will enter our new building

Conversation Starters:

  • Discuss a time you have been scared and how God helped you.
  • Name three characteristics of God.
  • Discuss how to keep God the focus of your life.
  • Talk about what you need to finish that you have started.

Memory verse:

“I forget about the things behind me and reach out for the things ahead of me. The goal I pursue is the prize of God’s upward call in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 3:13-14

Bible stories

  • February 5   David and Goliath    I Samuel 17
  • February 12    The Twelve Spies   Numbers 13 and 14
  • February 19    The First Church    Acts 2:42-47

Family Activity

At times, everyone fears feeling alone or unloved. As a family, share ideas about how you can work with God to bring comfort and care to others. Discuss each person’s unique gifts and abilities. How can those be used to comfort others? How can those same gifts be combined with those of other family members to care and help? Use construction paper to create the symbol of a heart. On it, write or draw the gifts of each person. Also write or draw about how they can be used to comfort people who are sad or lonely. Pray together, asking God to help guide you to use your ideas and gifts. Thank God for giving them to you. Display your family’s “heart” as a reminder to comfort others this year.

Action Steps:

  • Read the Bible stories for each upcoming week!
  • Play “I Spy” then talk about times when you have seen God.
  • Memorize this month’s Bible verse.
  • Play on monkey bars, a teeter totter or a balance beam. Do you need help to make it across or did you do it on your own? Do you need God’s help in life?
  • Help someone at school who may be scared or anxious.
  • When you feel afraid, take deep breaths and say, “God is with me and loves me.”

Conversation Starters:

  • When have you been afraid?
  • How do feel when you are scared?
  • Who helps you in your fears?
  • When have you been brave and courageous?
  • When have you trusted in God?
  • How can you learn to trust God even more?

Bible stories

  • January 8th Peter Walks on Water  Matthew 14:22-33
  • January 15 Esther Saves the Day   Esther 4, 5:1-8, and 7:1-6
  • January 22 Gideon Called by God  Judges 6
  • January 29 Jesus Heals Two Women  Luke 8:40-56

Memory Verse:

Grades K-2   “Don’t fear, because I am with you; don’t be afraid, for I am your God.” Isaiah 41:10a

Grades 3-5   “Don’t fear, because I am with you; don’t be afraid, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you; I will surely help you; I will hold you with my strong hand.”  Isaiah 41:10

Missions Project: Do you and your children have beds to sleep on? Do you have food to eat and a roof over your heads? Do you have people who love and care about you? Beginning this month and continuing through December, KiDSCOR will be collecting money for kids and their families who would answer, “No” to one or more of those questions. All KiDSCOR offering will be shared between   providing beds and bedding for kids in Kansas City, helping with education and food for orphans in Malawi, Africa and sponsoring our children through Compassion International.  Every coin and dollar you bring is used to share Christ’s love with children in these ways.  Please share your blessings!

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for your love, your comfort and for always being with me.  Thank you for Jesus and how I can count on him to be my friend no matter what.  Thank you for family, friends, food and my church home.  Please help me share all of my blessings with others so they can know your love, too.  Please help me follow you and learn your ways.  In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Parent Point: Every parent has a limited number of weeks to significantly impact their son or daughter. Typically, this number is 936.  That is the estimated time between birth and high school graduation. (If you have not had your children since birth, you will want to adjust this number.) What would happen if you filled a jar with 936 marbles—or whatever number fits your family?  Then each week, remove one marble.  Now this can sound like a lot of pressure, but try and visualize the time you can focus on and be intentional in your parenting…every week.  KiDSCOR offers many resources to help you do this, many of which can be found on our blog at kids.blogs.cor.org.  Many blessings to you as you parent!  And feel free to connect with KiDSCOR at any time for additional resources and support. We are in this together!

Action Steps:

  • Do a kind deed for someone each day this week.

Family activity:

Nov. 20

As you are driving, help your child to be aware of all of God’s creation. When you return home, create a Thanksgiving tablecloth.  You will need a light colored tablecloth and several colored fabric markers.  Trace each person’s hand onto the tablecloth.  Write each person’s name underneath his or her handprint.  Ask each person to draw pictures or write words identifying what he or she is thankful for. Praise God for all God has created!

Nov. 13 Invite each family member to name one or two of their friends. Ask your child why he or she has chosen those people as friends. Talk about what make a good friend and how we can be good friends to others. Pray for your friends and remind your child that Jesus is the very best friend of all!

Nov. 6  Today in KiDSCOR, your child threw wadded up paper “stones” at tape on a wall. They also brought home a cup of pom-poms representing stones. Visit with your child about his/fears.  Create a list, draw pictures or cut pictures out of magazines identifying these fears.  Tape this list or collage to a wall.  Encourage your child to throw the pom-pom stones at the list of fears and say, “God is stronger than you” or “God is always with me!” Pray and thank God for always being with you and your family.

Family activity: Have fun with your little one and puppets! Finger puppets and hand puppets are lots of fun and readily available to purchase.  You can also use a decorated paper bag or sock as a puppet!  You can use puppets to tell Bible stories, teach kind ways to act, sing praise songs and even help around the house as your child grows a little older!  Help your child have fun learning about God and growing in faith with all kinds of puppets! Your puppets can even help your child learn to pray!
