Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas from KiDSCOR! Here’s a great prayer you can read with your family on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day!

Dear God, thank you for Jesus.  Thank you for the amazing night when he was born in a manger surrounded by Joseph, Mary and the animals. Thank you that Jesus came to bring love, peace and hope to all people.  Help our family to share the love of Jesus with others.  Open our hearts to care for those who are hurting, lonely and sad.  Help us bring the light of Jesus into all the world. We praise you, God for the joy that Jesus brings to the world.  As we celebrate Christmas, help us to always remember Jesus and His love!  In His name we pray, Amen.

Advent Week #2 Prayer

Trying reading this prayer with your family a few times this week!

Dear God, when we see the Christmas lights, help us remember Jesus is the Light of the World.  When we hear Christmas music, remind us of your gentleness and peace.  When we taste yummy bread, help us remember you are the Bread of Life. When we send Christmas cards, help us remember to share your love with everyone.  Help us to see You in every part of the Christmas celebration. Thank you for your love and goodness.  We celebrate you!  In the name of Christ we pray, Amen.

An Advent Prayer

During The Advent Season read this prayer together as a family.

Dear God, thank you for Advent and for Christmas. Thank you for this time when we can focus on Jesus and His love.  When we hope for presents under the tree, help us also hope for more of Your presence in our lives. Please help our hearts be open this season so we can grow to know, love and serve you more deeply each and every day.  Help us to share your love with all people.  In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Advent Photo Challenge!

kidscoradventphotochallenge
Advent, the season of waiting, begins today Sunday, November 27th.  During Advent, we prepare to receive God’s greatest gift, Jesus Christ.  Yes, we may have heard the story many times.  Yes, we may feel like we have seen or experienced it all. But God speaks to us in new ways as we are opening to seeing and hearing Him in new and exciting ways!

This year, we invite your family to participate in KiDSCOR’s Advent Alphabet Photo Challenge!  To the left you will find a list of Advent words—one for each day in Advent—and one for each letter of the alphabet! (Click on the picture to get a bigger version).

Here is where the challenge comes in!  Grab your family or friends or neighbors or pets and take a picture with a representation of the word for the day! Be creative in your expression—“angel” doesn’t have to be the one of top of your tree.  Maybe it is a person in your life you think of in that way!

Next, share it in on the KiDSCOR Facebook wall (Facebook.com/kidscor), or on Instagram & Twitter with the #kidscordoesadvent. Prizes will be award randomly during the advent season for most creative pictures!

Enjoy and have fun! KiDSCOR is praying for your family you wait and watch for the coming of the Christ child!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas From KiDSCOR!! Our Christmas Day post comes from Diane Enlow who serves on staff in KiDSCOR at Rez Blue Springs!

christmasdaypost2This year on Christmas Day we really wanted to make it a point to celebrate the birth of Jesus by throwing him a birthday party.  We opened our sparkle boxes that we filled with notes of good deeds that were done all month.  Then we talked about how the thing Jesus wants most for Christmas is for us to love one another and Him.  Other than gifts, no birthday party is complete without a birthday cake and singing “Happy Birthday.”

After we opened gifts, we had worked up quite an appetite.  From all the prep for family being in town, and Christmasy things to do, I didn’t have time to bake a full birthday cake.  I also thought the kids would have more fun if they could make their very own, so we found some cute Mug Cakes on Pinterest and each kid made their own, decorated it with sprinkles, put a candle on top.  Then we sang Happy Birthday as a family and had cake for breakfast!! All together it only took us about 10 minutes from start to finish.  I think we have a new Christmas Tradition!

Here is the recipe we used –

1 12 oz mug or larger (ours spilled out over the top so I would use a bigger mug next time!)

4 T All Purpose Flour

3 T Sugar

2 T Cocoa Powder

1/4 tsp Baking Soda

3 T Milk

2-3 T Oil

1/4 tsp Vanilla (optional)

1 T Chocolate Chips to sprinkle on the top

Mix all ingredients together, make sure the batter doesn’t fill the mug more than 1/2 way.  Microwave for about 2 min.  If it still isn’t fully cooked, the cook another 30 seconds.  It will continue to cook in the mug a little after it is done.  It will be very hot for a little while.  Enjoy!!

Live it!

Today’s Post is from the Holt family. They attend Resurrection West.

61U4WWGzkcL._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_A few years ago an older, wise woman told me about the Jesus Storybook Bible, and how it shows that Jesus is woven into every story of the Bible from the very beginning. This year as a family we decided there would be no better time to read it than the advent season. Our plan was to start on December 1, and read a little bit every night to end on Christmas Eve.  Each night as we read, it gives us the opportunity to talk to our kids about how faithful God is and how he has had plans for them since before they were even born. The book has opened up a world of questions for my children and deepened our entire families appreciation for what God did for us on the cross all those years ago. My son, who is only 7, keeps talking about the true meaning of Christmas and how he hopes people don’t miss it! I feel like Christmas will be different for our family this year as we wake up Christmas day and remember what a very special gift God gave us one Christmas morning long ago!

What we are trying to live this year is how God’s love is a gift that is a Never Stopping, Never Giving Up, Unbreaking, Always and Forever kind of Love!!

Create It!

Many thanks to the Sayers Family of Rez Downtown for this post!

createitpic1Just like many other COR families, we are counting down the days of advent with candle lighting and learning about the Christmas story. We are so excited to light the Christ candle on Christmas Eve and celebrate our Savior’s birthday with a party for Jesus! So to make the event even more special, our little one created a special Christ candle holder to use on our Christmas Eve celebration! He is so looking forward to lighting the candle that he made, just for Jesus, with the love in his heart and the supplies in our art cabinet.

Try taking materials from around your house, and letting your children decorate a candle holder to honor the Christ candle as it is lit at your birthday party for Jesus. We simply took a mason jar and decorated it with glitter glue, tissue paper, and stickers. It is a great activity to focus on the true meaning of Christmas, by simply using art supplies you already have on hand. The finished product was very pretty and it was a fun craft to work on as a family. You can even use your candle holder again in next year’s celebration of our Savior’s birth.

Merry Christmas from our family to yours!

Picture Challenge!

starOur final advent picture challenges involves a star. If you were at KiDSCOR this past weekend you got a paper star on your way out, if you did not get one feel free to make a star or find one in your house.

Your challenge is this…take a picture of yourself pointing at the star. Pretend you are the wise men from that first Christmas who saw the star and then followed it to find Jesus.

Post your picture on twitter or instagram with the hashtag #kidscordoesadvent or post it on Facebook and tag KiDS COR in the post. We’ll pick our favorite pic and we’ll give the winner a fun prize! Good Luck!
