Our final advent picture challenges involves a star. If you were at KiDSCOR this past weekend you got a paper star on your way out, if you did not get one feel free to make a star or find one in your house.
Your challenge is this…take a picture of yourself pointing at the star. Pretend you are the wise men from that first Christmas who saw the star and then followed it to find Jesus.
Post your picture on twitter or instagram with the hashtag #kidscordoesadvent or post it on Facebook and tag KiDS COR in the post. We’ll pick our favorite pic and we’ll give the winner a fun prize! Good Luck!
Use this prayer as a guide with your family. Let them fill in the blanks out loud.
God, this Christmas season we are thankful for…
Please forgive us for…
Please be with…
Please help me…
I praise you for…
Thank you for loving our family. Please help our family to share your love with everyone all year long. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
Part of celebrating Advent is giving to others. Here are a couple of ideas of ways you can “give it” this advent season!
Heifer International’s mission is to work with communities to end world hunger and poverty and to care for the Earth. They empower families to turn hunger and poverty into hope and prosperity – but their approach is more than just giving them a handout. Heifer links communities and helps bring sustainable agriculture and commerce to areas with a long history of poverty. The animals provide partners with both food and reliable income, as agricultural products such as milk, eggs and honey can be traded or sold at market. When many families gain this new sustainable income, it brings new opportunities for building schools, creating agricultural cooperatives, forming community savings and funding small businesses.
Key part of Heifer– The core of their model is Passing on the Gift. This means families share the training they receive, and pass on the first female offspring of their livestock to another family. This extends the impact of the original gift, allowing a once impoverished family to become donors and full participants in improving their communities. The goal of every Heifer project is to help families achieve self-reliance. They do this by providing them the tools they need to sustain themselves, and it’s thanks to the generosity of donors like you.
You have the power to give a hungry family the training it takes to feed themselves and their children; to give a young girl a chance at an education; to empower a woman to have a voice in her community. Together, we can change the world, one family, one community, at a time. And it all starts with a gift. Here is the link to the gift catalog.
http://www.heifer.org/gift-catalog/index.html You could donate an animal, fund a project, support sustainable farming, promote women’s empowerment, provide basic needs or give where most needed. All of these categories have price ranges from $1-2,000. So there is a way that all kids, parents, and families can help out around the World!
Decide on someone in your family that you want to do something extra special for them. Think of a special way you can bless them in this day. Think of things they love to do and do them with them. Think of things they do, like chores and do them for them or help them. Think of their favorite snack or drink and make it for them. Write or draw a special card and tell them all the ways that they are special to you or what they do for you. Be extra sweet to them and show them Jesus’s love during this day.
Each week during Advent we’ll have an awesome picture challenge you can take part in and maybe win a prize! This week’s challenge involves the red piece of paper your kiddos received as they left KiDSCOR this past weekend. (If you did not receive a red piece of paper no worries just grab any piece of paper and you’ll be good to go!) Here is what we want you to do with your piece of paper. Have your kiddos or better yet your family make a Christmas card with it and give it to someone who does not live in your house. The card could go to someone at school, in your neighborhood, firefighter, policeman, or a relative who lives far way.
After you complete the card, take a picture of either the card and your kiddos who made it or if possible take a picture of the person receiving the card.
Finally after taking the picture post it on Facebook (tag KiDS COR) or post in on instagram or twitter using the hashtag #kidscordoesadvent.
(You can find us on twitter @kidscorleawood and on instagram @kidscor_leawood)
At the end of the week we’ll search for all the pics and choose our favorite. Our favorite picture will get a fun advent prize!
Read Luke 1:26-33
The angel Gabriel was sent by God to give Mary a special message – she would have a baby! But not just any baby, this baby would be God’s own Son. Who was this baby? (Jesus) This was amazing news! Gabriel said this baby would be given the throne of David and be king forever. Mary and her people, God’s people the Israelites, had waited a loooooooooong time for God to send someone like this to save them. Did anyone ever think it might be a baby?!
Well, 700 years before Gabriel visited Mary, a man named Isaiah gave God’s people a message from God Himself about how they would know the Savior.
Read Isaiah 7:14
God was making the message come true! God was keeping His promise to send a Redeemer, a Savior. How excited Mary must have been to know the One they had been waiting for all these years was going to be her baby.
How would you feel if you were Mary? Who is the first person you would tell?
How do you think God felt in sending Gabriel to Mary?
What do you think the angel Gabriel looked like? Draw a picture of Gabriel’s visit with Mary.
